Uniforms are a margin business. Whether you distribute to security companies, EMS agencies, schools, or industrial clients, your economics are set by what a shirt, a pant, or a duty belt costs you landed. What Sources Well from Pakistan

Know the Two Hard Limits

First, the Berry Amendment: US Department of Defense clothing purchases must use US-grown and US-made textiles. Imported uniforms cannot serve DoD contracts, full stop. The private-sector market — distributors, security firms, off-contract department purchases, schools, hospitals — is where imported uniforms legitimately live, and it is a very large market.

Second, ballistic items: reputable Pakistani suppliers (ourselves included) manufacture carriers and load-bearing gear without ballistic panels. Armor-rated products involve separate regulatory regimes and are not part of a standard apparel sourcing program.

Start from a Tech Pack — or a Garment

The best uniform orders start with either a proper tech pack (measurements per size, fabric spec, construction callouts, artwork) or a physical garment to reverse-engineer. A factory quoting from a photo is guessing; a factory quoting from a spec is committing. If you only have the garment you currently buy domestically, send it — fabric composition, weight, and construction can be matched and counter-sampled.

The Details That Separate Duty-Grade from Cheap

• Bartacks at pocket corners, belt loops, and stress points
• Reinforced seat and knee panels on duty pants
• Double-needle stitching on load-bearing seams
• Hardware that survives — quality zippers, snaps, and buckles
• Colorfastness — navy that stays navy through industrial laundering

Every one of these is checkable at pre-shipment inspection if it was written into the spec. That is the discipline that keeps imported uniforms from earning a bad name.

Sizing for the US Market

Insist on US size charts (XS–5XL, with talls if your market needs them) and order a size-set sample — one garment per size — before production. Fit disputes are the most common uniform quality complaint, and a size set eliminates most of them for the cost of a dozen garments.

The Economics
