How to Verify a Surgical Instrument Manufacturer in Pakistan (Before You Send Money)

Sialkot has hundreds of legitimate surgical instrument factories — and, like every manufacturing hub, traders posing as manufacturers and workshops whose paperwork outruns their processes. Here is the verification sequence we use, which you can apply yourself.

1. Confirm It's Actually a Factory

Ask for the production address and a live video walkthrough — forging or filing sections, grinding and polishing lines, passivation, inspection benches. A trader will show you a showroom and stall on the walkthrough. There is nothing wrong with buying through a middleman — unless he is pretending not to be one, because then his QC claims are fiction too.

2. Certificates: Verify, Don't Admire

• ISO 13485 — note the certificate body and registration number, then confirm it on the certifier's public register; expired and photoshopped certificates are a real phenomenon
• FDA establishment registration — for US-bound goods, look the company up in FDA's public registration database yourself
• CE documentation — ask who the notified body is and what exactly the certificate covers

3. Ask the Questions Traders Can't Answer

• Which steel grades do you use for this pattern, and can you share material certificates?
• What is your passivation process and how do you test it?
• What is your reprocessing rate on the pattern we need?
• Who are your existing export markets and can you share references?

4. Sample Like You Mean It

Order samples of the actual patterns you will buy, then check joint action, tip alignment under magnification, finish uniformity, and markings. Send a sample for independent hardness and corrosion testing if the program justifies it.

5. Structure the First Order Defensively

Small first order; payment terms that keep leverage; pre-shipment inspection at AQL 2.5 by someone who works for you, not the factory; and documentation checked against the physical goods before release.
